Help with geodized fossil ID, please?

Hi all, I found online the following fossil. The finder claims  it to be an egg, which I really doubt, although I am no expert.

What can it possible be?? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! Find location is south america, sorry for the lack of further details!

Best!

Looks like a quartz geode with some agate layer on the outer layer.  NOT an egg; but a nice geode.

The beekite rings were the first thing that stood out to me as well. Very cool! I've never seen beekite on a geode. :thumbsu:

I don't think this is a fossil, and it is definitely not an egg. The beekite on the outer layer would give it a more organic appearance to the untrained eye, but I think this is strictly geological. It is still an awesome find and worthy of a spot on the "cool rock shelf"!

I know next to nothing about Beekite but from what I have read, it is formed when silica replaces organic material from a fossil.  Is there a way for beekite to form without any source organic material?  Or could you consider this technically to have some fossil material on it?

Pictures are a little bit blurry, but the Beekite forming the pattern of rings might be evident. :)

You've got a point there. Perhaps this is a geodized sponge? It would be helpful to know its stratigraphic position.

Beekite can form "as a replacement of carbonate rock clasts, and shows no evidence of organic origin" - (McBride, 1988).
