JBohn28
Hello all, new here and looking to ID a few pieces I have. Any assistance is much appreciated. All found at Caspersen/Venice, FL a few years ago. #1 #2 #
Praefectus
Welcome to the forum! #1 is too eroded to identify for sure, but it appears to be a white shark tooth. Either Carcharodon hastalis or Carcharodon carcharias. #2 and #3 are requiem shark teeth, Carcharhinus sp. There are many possible shark species that could have the tooth shape of #2 and #3 (bull, dusky, etc.).
JBohn28
Praefectus, I appreciate the info. Kind of what I expected on #1, but thought maybe an eagle could pick something out from what was left. Was hoping #2 was maybe a small meg, but oh well. Thanks again, Jeremy
RescueMJ
Welcome to the forum also. I live in Venice and collect shark teeth for my students. I find more teeth a few miles to the East than at the beach. The color of the tooth in your first two photos is unique to me. I just dumped out a few jars of teeth and could not find a color match. Even though the tooth is beat up, the back of the tooth has a cool color scheme. -Regards Michael
JBohn28
Thanks Michael. I agree it’s got very unique color that doesn’t match anything else I found in my time down there either. It’s significantly bigger than any others I found but I never explored much beyond sifting in knee-waist deep water. Jeremy
