bthemoose
I found this along the Calvert Cliffs (Miocene exposure) in Maryland. The root shape doesn't look right to me for Carcharodon hastalis, though I could be wrong on that. Is it perhaps an Isurus desori?
BellamyBlake
It appears to be Isurus desori (Shortfin Mako). https://www.fossilguy.com/gallery/vert/fish-shark/isurus/isurus.htm This website notes that this one depicted is from Calvert Cliffs.
PrehistoricWonders
Could be desori or retroflexus

bthemoose
Thanks! It's the first Isurus tooth I've found.
MarcoSr
I don't want to cause another Anotodus/Isurus discussion, so I won't mention a genus, but this tooth looks like a retroflexus to me. Marco Sr. Can you explain how you made the call? I find that I often get confused when trying to differentiate desori, retroflexus and hastalis teeth. Especially the lowers. Miocene_Mason
Raised labial platforming the easiest way to distinguish them in my humble opinion. Yours has a bit of wear on it but it’s still there. 2 “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
