Bone 1

Recommended Posts

This is one out of 2 bones. Just want to know how old. Seems like dog bone. It makes y thin rock sound when flicking on it or gently hiting the concrete with it.  Maybe that’s normal but I don’t know! Lol it doesn’t let me load more due to pic size. I will add the other pictures as replies. It’s 3” long

Hold it over a lighter to see if it smells like burnt hair. If it does it is relatively recent.

@Rockwood hope you are not pulling my leg! Lol but I did it. I burnt a hair and it smelled strong, the bone doesn’t and the fainted smell vanishes fast. It definitely doesn’t smells like burnt hair though. Is it still recent?

I wouldn't say so. The odds seem good that it is a fossil.

It's not a full guarantee though.

Yes, I looked up dog skeleton and it seemed to match with that but not sure

I think you have a deer distal humerus, not a canid.  For comparison:

I'm not sure there is more than the internal mold (steinkern) left, but it's an echinoid (sea urchin).

I found five and a bunch of bones. my house seems to be surrounded with underground deer bones or something. I do t know if one is part of a skull.  I will look at it better tomorrow

Must rare subterranean gopher deer.

Either that or a poacher used to live there. :)

But seriously, if they are mixed with echinoids that would be an interesting fossil site.

Yup, we are digging some more later today.

You might want to just keep an eye out for anything like a broken tool, or signs of human activity. A Pleistocene midden would be a nice find.

It looks like a tool. The sharp end of a spear, very sharp end and it looks it was carved into that shape. But I’m no expert though.
