n.wats
I got this recently and it seemed so cheap for the size (I know nothing about authenticating fossils) so I wanted to check if it was real
ThePhysicist
The crown is real, but it looks like a composite to me (meaning that someone stuck two unassociated pieces together). The root could also be real, but it could also be a carved, modern bone. Notice the circled area is a different color from the rest of the root. Looks like a large crown though! If you wet it, you may be able to separate the crown from the "root." 2 "Argumentation cannot suffice for the discovery of new work, since the subtlety of Nature is greater many times than the subtlety of argument." - Carl Sagan "I was born not knowing and have had only a little time to change that here and there." - Richard Feynman Collections: Hell Creek Microsite | Hell Creek/Lance | Dinosaurs | Sharks | Squamates | Post Oak Creek | North Sulphur River | Lee Creek | Aguja | Permian | Devonian | Triassic | Harding Sandstone Instagram: @thephysicist_tff
n.wats
Thank you, sorry if this sounds really ignorant but is the crown the tooth but that sticks out?
Troodon
A tooth is made up of a crown and a root. The crown is the enamel portion that is on top

Praefectus
I agree with the others. The crown is real and the root is real, but they are held together by sand/glue/plaster and likely didn't come from the same tooth.
BellamyBlake
I believe the same. It appears modified to me
LordTrilobite
As the others say, real tooth crown, fake root. The "root" looks like random bone that's been ground down to get the rough correct shape. Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite

Yes LordTrilobite you are right, the real roots have a hole on the medial side and they are also mutch longer. this is a typical maroccan compisit for a small price bcause the comlete teetha are very rare (1:10.000 or more) Uli
