Tooth? Found in Green Mill Run

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I am sure this is an easy one for you but I would like20200815_220905.thumb.jpg.8f168313a994859a49ec7470853b8f8f.jpg to be sure, since my guess is only a guess!  I apologize that the only measuring tape I had was in inches, but i believe it is just under 35 mm.  Found in the green mill run. Near the tar river in Greenville NC USA20200815_220905.thumb.jpg.8f168313a994859a49ec7470853b8f8f.jpg Thank you!

I concur w/croc. Conical shape suggests.

 Nice find!

Looks like mosasaur to me. Can we see some photos from different angles?

Thanks! It is hard to see in the pictures but the tooth is smooth all around but there is a definite sharp ridge from the top to the base on the inside curve

I thought a round cavity was croc and an oval cavity was mosasaur ?

What is a carina? Sorry! I am trying to learn and Google was not a lot of help :)

Based on Al Dente's interesting fact, and what looks like an oval cavity, I am in the mosasaur camp.

The carina is like a seam or edge that runs the length of the tooth.

Without a doubt one of the best mososaur teeth I have seen from Greens Mill Run. Congrats on a great find.
