FairfaxLC
Can you guys help me identify this tooth I found? I would be most grateful for your opinions. -M
Fossildude19
Cropped enlarged, and brightened. Unfortunately this is extremely worn, and may not be identifiable to species. Where was it found? FairfaxLC
I found this outside of a sand bar in Fenwick Delaware. Do you have any guess on the age or value for something like this? It' feels like a stone more than a tooth and is heavy for its size.

It looks like it could be a bull shark, but that's hard to confirm based on the wear.
Mark Kmiecik
It is extremely worn and therefore not identifiable. Most collectors won't bother to pick up a tooth that has this much wear. That should give you a clue to its value. I'm not certain it is a tooth from looking at the photos available. It may just be a phosphate nodule that weathering has formed into the shape of a shark tooth. It looks like root and enamel on what would be the lingual side, but the buccal side seems to have no differentiation between the two. Mark. FairfaxLC
Mark, Thank you for taking the time to give me such a good response. I've been doing a lot of searching online to find similar teeth. I think you might be right about this possibly not even being a tooth. My kids will continue to think it is. I made whatever it is in to a necklace and its a funny story thats priceless to me. We will continue to hunt for our next treasure. Stay well. -M
