Hello, as part of a great hunt at Seatown on the jurassic coast I found this vertebra covered in pyrite, my first thought is plesiosaur due to the size of it. However the upper surface looks unusual to other plesiosaur verts Ive seen, any thoughts?

Garanteed plesiosaur, maybe caudal or pectoral. Need more photos from all sides

Awesome thanks. One of the surfaces has a part of the next vertebra attached (1st photo), and the other side has two thin bones (2nd photo). Would it be possible to remove the pyrite? And would "pyrite rot" destory the vertebra?

Yep, probably pectroral. Removing pyrite is possible but not with hammer and chisel, as the bone can crack as well. As to the the "pyrite rot", IMHO it depends on locality, sometimes fast, sometimes very slightly, sometimes not at all. Specimens need dry conditions though
