I'm excited to go back to Mazon Creek. Last time I was there I found nothing. Yeah I found very little too. I think one Annularia and one Mazonomya was my final tally... There were a lot of look-a-like concretions, and the fact that the whole pile was muddy from rain didn’t help.

bigred97
I spent some time this weekend tapping my concretions from the trip and had absolutely no luck, none opened. So I will just post a few things that I found opened at the creek.
bigred97
I'm not sure what the last pic in this group is - maybe a coprolite? Here is a little hitchhiker I brought home with me. This is a water-penny beetle larva that was attached to a concretion and is now dried out. Last year I found some pieces of one of these and it caused a little bit of a stir until @deutscheben provided the ID, proving this was a creature currently living in the creek, not a fossil. I still think it's really neat. It is probably about 5mm long.
Ludwigia
@Nimravis I'm a little late on the uptake here, but thanks for posting this. Looks to be a great community experience as well as a great spot to collect. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. connorp
Have had a couple more open but nothing super exciting, so I'll post this piece that I found in the river – a piece of bark covered with microconchids. I found a couple but this is by far the best. I do quite enjoy plant-animal associations.

bigred97
Very cool @connorp! I haven't found a microconchid yet, but I check each piece of bark very carefully!

Nimravis
Nice finds Rich, I just put a few buckets outside to start the long Winters freeze / thaw process and see what, if anything pops.

Out of those, only one was blank. Some were unidentifiable debris, but ~19/20 having some fossil is certainly a far cry from Pit 11. Here are my better finds so far. Nimravis
Some beautiful finds there Rich, keep them coming. I know people like the animals, but the plants are always my favorite. I hope some of my concretions pop that I am freezing over the winter.

All I know is that next time I'm going to just follow him around, looking for ones he might have missed. I'm sure I'll have better luck than just going off by myself somewhere. Rich, nice finds! I really like the seed, I've never found one of those. Chris
