Ludwigia
I visited my favorite shark tooth site in the Miocene Burdigalian again today and along with the usual teeth I dug out the following objects. The first is obviously a vertebra, and I don't think it's fishy, but rather mammalish in my humble opinion. But I'm not at all sure about that. I've found teeth from Cervidae here before, so I'm thinking that maybe that's the case with the vertebra? Measurements: Ø13-15mm x15mm. long. I haven't got a clue on the next 2 items. The first is 10x4mm. and the second 15x5mm. Any suggestions would be appreciated. 2 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. val horn
i do think the second is part of a ray dermal plate. The vertebrae with its essential hollowness from both sides looks like shark vertebrae to me. the third I have no idea. Hopefully someone else will recognize it.
Harry Pristis
A not-mammal vertebra. The second object is more likely to be a fragment of a ray tooth plate than of a dermal denticle. Third item remains a mystery. 2 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
MarcoSr
The first specimen is a fish vertebra. You can tell that by the vertebra being concave on both ends and by the notochord hole in the vertebra center. The second specimen is a partial tooth from a ray dental plate. No suggestions for the third specimen. Marco Sr. 2 "Any day that you can fossil hunt is a great day." Ludwigia
Thank you one and all for your expertise. I figured that last one would be a toughie. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
daves64
Could #3 be some sort of solitary coral, just weathered oddly? Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.

Interesting thought, but there are no corallites or other distinguishing features in view. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. I think it is a steinkern of a solitary coral. Maybe photos of both ends would confirm it.

I don’t really see it but I still think it could be a solitary coral.
