I am looking for info on a turtle which I have heard called a "helmet turtle". Mine is truly shaped like a helmet--fat and rounded--does not look like a stelemys...

...found in SD. 

I once saw a similarly shaped one in NE, but it wasn't worth collecting.

I just want--at this point--to know if such a thing exists. If I can get affirmative info, I'll send pix.

Personally I always thought stelemys Nebrascensis looked more like a helmet then the other varieties of stelemys. I had a friend who used to refer to them as a “helmet“  turtle But I don’t know if that’s just what he called them or wether he heard the name from somewhere else. They were found in Nebraska, s.d, and other localities...

These turtles get squished.  I have some that are helmetty as well as some that are more pancakey and some that are completely lop-sided.  I don't think the helmet shape is a taxonomic chancteristic
