Top Trilo Posted September 6, 2020 Share Posted September 6, 2020 A couple years ago I was on vacation in Wayne county Ohio, and I stepped on something in a lake I picked it up and found this. Originally, I thought it was a shell piece, but when I looked again it looked like a trilobite because of the three lines. I know it’s partial so I’m unsure if I’ll get an ID but I hope I do. Genera, though the first and last are often used to describe larger taxa. I would tend to lean more towards a productid; so Dictyoclostus would fit the best of your three. But i'm not saying it is. Mark Kmiecik Posted September 6, 2020 Share Posted September 6, 2020 One other thing is the lack of bilateral symmetry one would expect to see in a trilobite. Left and right sides should be close to a mirror image of each other. A partial portion of one side should reflect the same portion of the other, unless only one side of the trilobite is represented. If this piece is a fossil what is it or is it just a rock or an unidentifiable fossil chunk are these imprints of anything or just pareidolia? Also on the front the brachiopod is in this light colored rock is it made differently than the surrounding rock? As far as the black piece, Im leaning towards fossil. I tried scratching it with my nail it didn't come off.
