Some recent finds from the shark tooth site

I've been visiting the shark tooth site here in the Lake of Constance region quite regularly, since it makes for a nice bike ride to get there and it's also a relatively relaxing activity. I figured I could show you some of the things I've been finding over the last few weeks. Please feel free to revise my ids if they aren't correct.

Nice finds Roger! Are you collecting in a stream or right out of the matrix?

Directly out of the bank. I posted a few photos of the exposure here a while ago, but here's one of them again.

It happened to me too, but I had to use another card. Don’t worry, I suppose we have about the same age...

Nice spot you found ! Pretty good finds i would say !

Thanks. Of course these are midgets in comparison to the ones you find in Antwerp, but they are still "klein aber fein".

I decided a while ago to get a Riker Mount to display the best ones, but decided in the end to get one of these new-fangled Floating Frames instead. It turned out that they don't hold properly when they are filled with objects having differing depth and half of them just slipped down to the bottom of the frame after I closed it. At least they stay in place with a bit of sticky putty, but it was a bit of a disappointment. It seems that they are only good for single objects or ones with equal depth. Here it is anyway, still with room for more.

Building a nice collection.  I'm always partial to the "Cow" shark teeth.

Thanks guys. Yes, the cows are amongst my favorites as well, although I'll also take a good Galeocerdo or Hemipristis any time.

Really beautiful teeth. Do you know what the marks, traces are on the tooth above?

Thanks. No, I'm afraid I don't know exactly what could have created these marks, but they appear to be trace marks of some living creature. When they occured (old or recent?) is debateable.

Those are probably root traces where modern roots have pressed against the tooth
