What is this thingy?

Found it in a park by a creek inside a little cave. It's all black, feels rather light and has a strange texture.

Are there any fire pits in the park ? It seems possible that it is a flake from a rock that has been heated in a fire.

I pick up rocks with interesting shapes and textures I'm unfamiliar with all the time. A closer look means it either goes in the bag for more examination at home or I toss it back. What we can see in the photo does not resemble any fossil that is recognizable. If you have some idea what it might be from having it in hand then let us know and that may spark some recognition but otherwise I got nothing

I look at the shape and think turtle however the internal texture does not look like bone. Do you have pictures of it fro the other sides?
