Tooth shaped - fossil or possibly just a stone?

Is this a fossil or just two different rock types. One softer that has worn in the shape of a tooth?

I found it in a river in Wicklow in Ireland.

Any comments appreciated.

That sure does look amazing similar to a tooth, but I'm afraid it's exactly what you're thinking. 2 layers of stone abraded by nature. There's absolutely no sign of enamel on this to be seen. Just grains. Nevertheless, I'd keep it as a conversation piece.

That's one peculiar looking rock! :look: But I'm afraid @Ludwigia is right, and this is just a really strange coincidence. No bone-texture or enamel to be seen, so I'd say two different types of sandstone stuck together.

Wow! That is one cool rock. Not a tooth, but I think it's a keeper. Definitely one of the coolest rocks I've ever seen -- and that's 60 years of rocks we're talking about!

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Thanks for the cool comments guys. The rock is definitely unusual and I'll certainly keep it in my collection as the fossil that never was. :)

Geology is cool too. Hehe.
