Hi Marco,

The second tooth, yes, it's a little over 5mm, and my equipment has much to be desired.

Seeing the other picture, the tooth definitely looks like an Orectolobiforme tooth.  I'm not familiar with the fauna from the Fox Hill Formation so I don't know what genera of Orectolobiforme teeth are found in the fauna.   Plicatoscyllium is a possibility as Eric states in an above reply.

Really?  Even the micro stuff?  I must give that a try. Any details on the process?  Thanks. The red color on those teeth is really nice looking. Thanks for the report.

Yep, best method I've used for smaller teeth .. though anything up to 2" usually handles ok. It's when they get thicker that the visual distortion and focus becomes an issue. The depth of field is quite narrow.

For notes on the process I always point to Elasmo.com, he does a good job of breaking it down.  http://www.elasmo.com/frameMe.html?file=refs/terms/scanning.html&menu=bin/menu_refs-alt.html

Cheers,

Brett

Thanks... not a completely new world, but if I'm going to keep going so small, I'm gonna need some serious glasses. My eyes are going out fast !

I searched a bunch of Devonian matrix and the shark teeth are 1-3mm. My eyes would wig out if I did not frequent take breaks lol The micros are hard on the eyes but the results add alot to a shark tooth collection and you added some real beauties to yours Brett.

Here are a few crocodillian teeth .. or at least I think that is what is coming out of these layers.

A few shark teeth in matrix and more of the marine fauna. Turtle bones can be found, and sometimes in abundance, depending on the location. I was lucky in my bucket to find one ..

A few of the more complete teeth .. the colors honestly are amazing.Fox_Hills_09_26_2020_Micros_006.thumb.jpg.c60b467abe15343a79888f9b90774f7a.jpg

  • 2 weeks later...

Trying a few of the micros with a new clip on lens for my phone camera, to catch some of the 3 dimensional qualities. ... I'll need something to diffuse/bounce the light, and a tripod of sorts.
