Porpoise or whale tooth found on beach?

Hi All,

I could use some help identifying what looks to be a tooth?  I found it on Wrightsville Beach, NC.  Is it a tooth? If so, what kind? Porpoise? Whale?   I have been searching with no luck so I thought I would ask the kind people on this forum.

Thanks,

J

Hello Jay B,

welcome to the forum!

Some scale and a picture of the broken side could be helpful.

Best Regards,

Looks like a broken piece of shell, to me.

I'm also in the piece of shell camp. Wilmington and vicinity  is a great place to look for fossils though!

please show a photo of the wider end to see if it is hollow,  IF there is a hollow oval at the end that will go aways to suggesting tooth
