Theropod bone?

End of a long bone found in the Judith river of Montana.
seems a bit bigger than the normal little chicken/goat sized ornithomimid stuff we usually find - but it’s hollow (and pretty) :)

and can anyone explain the odd markings on the articulating surface?  Where tensions would run?

thanks for the help

(and I love this forum by the way)

Nice bone looks like it could be the distal end of a center metatarsal of a theropod.  Those marks are very cool never seen something like that should be smooth.  Could be predation but the two ridges don't have sharp edges.  Pathologic?

What size theropod would we be talking about?

thanks!!

the grooves look more smooth and even than other predation stuff I’ve seen, but maybe I’ll just tell my daughter it was predation :)

I dont think its predation gooves are smooth.   The bone could be from a Struthiomimus size animal.  Could be a juvie bone from a larger type animal.  Its different you may want to email Pete Larsen and see what he says
