Hey! I was wondering if anyone knew any good places to buy custom stands/displays for bones or how to make them. Thanks!

(sorry didn't realize this was fossil id and I don't know how to delete it)

A member here is making welded stands but I no longer have the info. many use oak or walnut wood and bend and insert brass rod in drilled holes by size to support the weight. Hobby brass is often found at a hardware store., or larger gauge or diameter at a  local welding supply house . If the later usually sold by the weight. Look and pictures and bend to fit.

Have a look at some of Snolly50's work. He has done some great things with wood and metal rods.

@Fossildude19 Thanks Tim, figuring out a display rig that works is part of the fun for me.

  • 4 weeks later...

Do to the size and  irregular shape of the back side I made a stand. 4 inch PVC sink drain glue in insert. $2.85 at the big box store. I put painter tape on it and marked the line for where to cut. Then used a bend of braided cable and marked with a pen where to copping saw the opening. Turned the fine tooth saw blade as need and dropped screw through the center hole into the bench top to help hold it. Sanded it smooth with a roll of sand paper. Used a label maker.

Searching for "iron display stands" on our favorite auction site will show some possibilities, especially if you have slablike fossils.

I usually cut and bend into shape pieces of 3mm  plexiglass for thinner fossils.

I make my own. I use lexand as a base and brass rods as the support, so I just drill a hole into the lexand and pop the brass rod in after bending it as necessary.
