Ludwigia
Last Thursday I posted a report about a recent dig in the Kimmeridgian here. It was successful enough that I decided today to return and continue with what I had begun. First I had to contend with some water again and then I spent a couple of hours removing more overburden to get at the layer and then started moving shale and concretionary blocks. I made some good finds again, including a very large Crussoliceras. Forgot to take in situ photos of the finds since I was too busy getting excited, with the exception of this very last one as it was starting to get dark. I did however think to take a photo of most of the finds a few minutes earlier. Looks like I've got some work ahead of me again 17 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. FossilNerd
Another great haul! Looks like the time you spent to re-expose the Kimmeridgian division zone was time well spent. Ludwigia
I didn't have as much time as I had hoped today, but I did manage to get moving on the big one. Figured I'd show a step-by-step. It was in 2 pieces, which I placed together for the first photo. You may notice that the outer whorl at the bottom appears to be somewhat battered, so we'll see what happens. First a go-through with the fine stylus. The bottom is still looking to be a bit of a problem, but maybe the abrader can solve it. At least it looks ok, so I glued the two pieces together. This is as far as I got today. Looks like I have a bit of filling to do. But that will have to wait until the day after tomorrow, since my friend and colleague has invited me to go fossiling with him tomorrow. 6 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
The fossil hunting day didn't last as long as I figured. We just didn't have any luck this time around, so I got home earlier than expected and put the finishing touches on the big Crussoliceras sp. Here it is. ø is 25cm. I should be able to add some more here sometime tomorrow. 5 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

No. It's just a soft light grey colored marl. !!! I just saw what you meant with the cameo. Depending on how I look at it, I can see 2 different heads. Pareidolia! Questa volta non abbiamo avuto fortuna, quindi sono tornato a casa prima del previsto e ho dato gli ultimi ritocchi alla grande Crussoliceras sp. Ecco qui. ø è 25 cm.
