OK, so I've never been to England, although my heritage is heavy on Irish, Scott, Welsh.  I have no idea, therefore, how easy it is to travel across England.  I live in Texas.  Some of my favorite "local" fossil sites are 5 hrs and 8 hrs drive away - and still in Texas.  So in my mind, anything anywhere in England would be "local" from whatever location in England.  Thus, having given you a.Texan's perspective on "local", and without knowing anything about England, I boldly offer you these few references I have on fossil hunting in England.

First, some references from TFF:

Then some internet sites dedicated to England Fossil Sites:

And last but certainly not least:

Hope this helps!  :thumbsu:

Wow @grandpa!  Thanks for that perspective of how lucky we are here in the Mid-Atlantic to have so many diverse fossil sites within a few hours drive.

I might also suggest that England may have some local geology/fossil clubs where collecting sites could be shared--maybe even on a club field trip.

This made me laugh.  I grew up in Massachusetts where we had good friends that lived two hours away in Vermont.  We would visit them once in summer and once in winter and stay a few days cuz they lived far away.   Now that I live in Wyoming, I have been known to to drive to Denver 4 hours away and come back that evening cuz it is not too far.  My family in Switzerland find the half hour drive into France for shopping to be a long ways away.

Many of my fossil sites are within a few hours.  My limit for a one day trip here is 2 hours or so.  So, I am with grandpa, any site within a few hours by car is local.
