I went camping over in West Texas in Kickapoo Caverns state park this past weekend. While I was hiking around I noticed dozens of these formation that were jutting out of the limestone boulders and bedrock. Not sure what they are but they seem to be shaped like small trees or medium thick branches.

Anyone know what they are?

The preservation makes it difficult to be certain, but I think they are most likely fragments of a branching bryozoan colony.

They are, indeed, chert nodules.
