I found this one in indiana. I've only recently cleaned it up and noticed it had a hole that went all the way through and after looking closer I believe it's a tiny skeleton, possibly a bar or mouse. I got a couple of pictures of what may be a brain stem or something, but I'm not sure. This is pretty tiny. The entire thing is about a quarter of an inch?

Sorry. I see the resemblance, but I'm afraid those sutures don't quite cut it.

I believe this is a clast or nodule.

Ah ok. I wasn't sure if there are instances where it would look different. Any ideas about the little cord that comes from the inside?

Possibly small geodes.

I kicked the contrast up on a couple of the pictures and it appears to come from the inside of the rock. I have never seen that before.

So that is the cord. Con you give us any clues as to what might be expected to be found where this was ?

I speculate with the idea of a serpulid tube worm. :headscratch:

It was in a rock bed brought in from a rock quarry I think. So unfortunately, I don't know anything else.

Then it should become obvious if you soak it in water.

Well, i soaked in soapy water over night and cleaned with a toothbrush and it was still there, but I don't know what kind of change would be evident of plant matter so I could be missing something perhaps.

It does seem to look similar to E. At least at the core, but if it's definitely recent, I would have thought water and soap would have washed it out.

Rootlets can be quite stubborn.  Take some tweezers and pull it out.

Ok. I will do that and share a picture once I get it. As long as I don't lose it. It's so small. Lol

There will be another possibility in my thinking: maybe a Dentalium?
