holdinghistory
My daughter found this vertebra on the beach today while we were looking for shark teeth (at Mikler Beach, just north of St Augustine). Any ideas on a more specific attribution? Thanks!
Mahnmut
Hello, Wondrering about your find I just found a very informative page about vertebrae, answering some questions I have asked myself for some time: https://inside.ucumberlands.edu/academics/biology/faculty/kuss/courses/vertbraeribssternum/amphicoelousETC.htm According to this, the concavity at the front end (assuming the broader end is front?) would make this a procoelous vertebra and thus most probably a reptiles. I think there are many exceptions to these correlations though, as the vertebraes shape is determined by function as much as relation. Thanks! We just recently had a discussion about a possible Gar fish vert ... I think Al Dente is right. It looks like a possible candidate for a Gar fish.
