flyingpenut Posted December 22, 2020 Share Posted December 22, 2020 I went back to a new spot on POC and found the typical array of broken shark teeth, a few Ptychodus teeth, and some interesting items I'm not really sure about. Anyone have an idea of what the item in pictures 6-8 are? What about 9-11 maybe coprolite or a fossilized crustacean? The item in pictures 12-14 appears to be a tooth but with no enamel I didn't think it was a shark tip. It could also just be a piece of bone or something. Sorry for the poor picture quality of that one but I will take better ones of it later. Im pretty sure picture 15 is a rudist and lastly the item in pictures 16-18 I think is just a coincidentally formed rock. Nice! Love the verts too. Were you filtering matrix onsite while you were there? For all the small/tiny finds? Or examining matrix under magnification after the fact? I was surprised about the new mortoni but now it makes we want to go out and find ALL the other varieties. Luckily I have heard of places in Texas where several other varieties can be found. 15 was confirmed rudist and 16-18 definitely a rock. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Most of these were surface finds with a couple hours of sifting too using a 1/4” sifter. I don’t have any micros here but a few months back I collected a couple gallons of matrix and have been slowly filtering it, mostly just by plain sight because the microscope isn’t providing great clarity. I have found tons of small shark teeth, ray teeth, a few verts, and several unknowns. One of these days I will get around to posting all the cool micros I have found.
