sammi
Hey! I'm new to this, but I'm trying to identify this fossil. I think it is a brachiopod, but I could be wrong. It is 20mm wide. Do you have any idea about the species/genus/time period of it? - I would love to learn a bit more about it! Thanks in advance Edited December 29, 2020 by sammi
Fossildude19
Looks a bit like the brachiopod Atrypa sp. Thomas.Dodson
You're right that it is a brachiopod but it will be easiest to determine age and further identification by where it was found. Do you have locality information?
FossilDAWG
I agree that it is an atrypid brachiopod, such as Atrypa or Pseudoatrypa. If we knew where it came from we might be able to offer more confident suggestions about the age. Don
sammi
Thanks for all your replies Unfortunately, I don't have any info re locality - I traded the fossil with a friend
Ludwigia
I'll go along with the others at any rate. In my opinion, the most probable educated guess would be the Atrypidae family, which would place it in the Paleozoic, but you can't get any closer than that without stratigraphy and location. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance.
