So i happen to come across this image, and it claims to be an opalised dinosaur jaw fragment from SA (South Australia) for me at least i do see some kind of fossil but its identification as carinal is dubious in my opion.

What do yall think?

I agree, the jaw claim is a bit dubious. Sometimes, a bone chunk is just a bone chunk.

However, many online descriptions/identifications are dubious.

In a perfect world, vendors would be able to match the item with a similar drawing/image of the supposed bone chunk, or whatever they say the fossil is..

Like this:

Ptycholepis marshi skull.

However, the best that they can do sometimes with the information they are given is not very accurate.

It is the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

I have no opinion to offer, but thoroughly enjoy seeing opalized fossils. A friend of mine is a big collector of Australian opals and has long wanted a fossilized specimen. He shared the site for Australian Opal Centre which shows numerous specimens. The diversity across plants and animals was quite amazing.
