Neanderthal Shaman
Hi folks, I was looking through some of my older fossils (by which I mean the ones I've had the longest, not the oldest in terms of geologic time) and I was happy to see this guy again. This is Eocene shale from the John Day Fossil Beds in Oregon, acquired back in the day when they did guided tours of the Painted Hills and let you keep some stuff. I've long assumed it to be the impression of a nut of some kind. Was wondering if anyone else had some thoughts on it? The impression of interest is small, probably about 1 inch in diameter. Fossildude19
Maybe a cone, rather than a nut? @piranha 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Neanderthal Shaman
Now that you mention it, that makes more sense to me than a nut, it does have that sort of textured pattern that some cones have.
