Where to find unprepped Green River fossils

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to fossil preparation and want to try on a Green River knightia fossil. I'm in Canada though and have no idea where to find unprepped fossils of any kind. I feel like this is something I'd actually be good at as a hobby to get me through some winter blues. I've been obsessed with fossils since I was 3. Does anyone have an idea of where I might find unprepped Green River specimens?

Thank you!

Hi,

I suppose the quarry is good place to start.:heartylaugh: https://www.google.com/maps/place/41°51'54.9"N+110°40'29.0"W/@41.8628725,-110.680938,2363m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d41.865252!4d-110.674709

Or do you mean where you can acquire unprepared material? Then I suggest you google it. There are a few suppliers.

If you contact any of the fish quarries in Wyoming they should be able to help you find unprepped specimens.

Alternatively a Google search of "Unprepared Green River Fish Fossils" returns plenty of results.  ;)

Good luck.

A few years back, I took my grandkids on a road trip through Yellowstone and we spent a week in Wyoming. We actually went to a quarry and the folks that owned it were allowing people to dig for fossils. The older grandkids all found nice partially exposed fish in a sandstone matrix and the guides helped them to remove most of the matrix. So google fossil hunting Wyoming and you will find quite a few quarries that probably still do the pay to hunt thing.

Yes, it is big business in that corner of the state.
