Fossil sponge?

Bob Saunders

Recommended Posts

Phylum Porifera (sponge)   M. Odovician

Bobcaygeon Formation    Kirkfield, Ontario. Cananda  4.5 cm long

This is another from an old collection as found. Wrapped with a number tag to match a  hand writ-in entry. The sponges I have shows some formation. I will put it in the ultrasonic cleaner. What do you think, do the come smooth?

:zzzzscratchchin: It may be an acquired image, had by someone who has done thin section studies on specimens which are similar enough,  but I don't see sponge here.

Thanks, I purchased this and it is rounded, not a slice or cut. An online search of images does show several smooth surface sponges somewhat similar, including in the above link. She said that his journal dates from at least the 1950-1960's . I do not know if all were self collected. I will see what the cleaning reveals.
