Help please to identify this fossil.
Age:  Middle Miocene.
Size - 3,5 mm.
Location: Western Ukraine.

It is a piece of crab shell. I believe the holes are where sensory hairs stick out of the shell. I find similar pieces here in North Carolina.

Glad I saw this post...I was wondering what these little holes filled with holes were! I knew they were crab, but wasn't sure about the sensory filliments!  The Fossil Forum is so awesome

Here's a Cretaceous Callianassid shrimp claw tip with similar holes (difficult to see in my photo). The second pic is modern Callianassid claws that I found on the beach with the hair bundles showing on the claw tips.
