Need help identifying this.  Some say it's a regular rock formation.  Others insist that it's a petrified bone.  "Distal phalange" from a large animal was one person's guess.  It's about 3 inches long.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

This is an interesting one and I can certainly see why some people think phalanx. I don't see any distinct bone structure from the pictures but it does resemble worn bone from some dense bones species I've seen. Could we get some pictures of the distal and proximal surfaces (the ends) from straight on? I'm thinking it's just a rock from these pictures (distal end, for one, looks wrong) but we should cover all the bases.  Also, specific information on where this was found will also help.

I'm not seeing the surface I would expect from a phalanx or other bone. Some of the asymmetry also seems beyond what I'd expect in even a worn bone. My opinion is this is a (very) suggestive rock.

Thanks for your help!  Quite a few have said the same thing on other pages.  Still an interesting formation.  Thanks!
