connorp
While organizing today, I came across this Composita I collected a while ago in the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. I noticed it had something encrusting it, which was surprising since brachs from this site never seem to have any encrusting organisms. Whatever it is, it is not preserved super well, but it almost looks like a tiny productid brachiopod? Never seen anything like it. Any thoughts? @Tidgy's Dad
Tidgy's Dad
Interesting. I don't know, but I'll offer a couple of suggestions. In some regards it looks like a small Composita. Could it be the early growth stages of a young brachiopod? It also resembles a gastropod to me in some respects. 2 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend. Yeah, strange indeed. i was wondering if it could be a small Composita shell that happened to get deposited on top of an adult shell, then was cemented later after burial, so a cemented brach but not a cementing brach...a composite Composita ??

Yes, I think this is quite likely. Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
