How long will vegetation in sediment stay alive? I’ve had this piece of sediment that I found here at my house set aside for about two months.

I'm not sure, but these don't appear to be still alive. It is possible that dead vegetation can cling to a rock due to how it had fastened to the surface in life (just like one can have a dead tree still clinging by its roots to a cliffside).
