Yesterday I decide to go to one of my favorite site. A site of eocene mammals in the southwest France.

It rained all night and it's good to see bones.Indeed, bones are there

A mandible

A mammal skull

But here I need other important tools

I have to cut the rock

And remove the piece

It's done

A big broken skull. You can see the front of the skull with the broken teeth

You can see better the front

A little further, I find the broken back of the skull

And a destroyed mandible

A ton of prep for many monthes.....or years!

Nice report! I really love Chelonian finds. They are quite rare, even more rare to have good preservation.

Your field tools are top. Do you carry a power generator or a car inverter?

Its exactly what is needed on the field, get the job done faster and most important, properly without damaging the fossil.

That’s all in ONE trip!  How many of these are you submitting to FOTM? In a normal month, any one of these would win!

Nothing of that. The machine has a motor, like a chainsaw

I have already won the FOTM with this material. So I won't suggest it

WOW!!!!   Quelles superbes trouvailles.  (What great finds).

Do you find any small mammals here?

I see a lot of prep work there.  Bravo, caterpillar.

Looks like a lot of very challenging prep work, but we know you are up to it.  The "vertebra in stromatolite" looks a lot more like a "petrified heart" than the ones we usually see posted.

Those are some awesome finds. We don't get to see enough Eocene mammal material, so glad you shared these. Of course I would love to see those prepped. I can only begin to imagine.

Thanks all for your encouragements.

The mammals found there are Palaeotherium (the big) and Plagiolophus. I've already found small mammals like Dacrytherium, Xiphodon, Acotherulum, Cebochoerus, Metanchilophus and even Leptadapis.

The turtles are not been studied.

For the prep, you have to wait. I have whole drawers waiting

Woow amazing finds! I would love to trying prepping one, how difficult it is to prep this material? I would love to see the prep sequence of some of your fossil!
