Gyrosteus or wood? Or other?

Going over some old finds...

When I found this I picked it up as it reminded me of the Gyrosteus (large Jurassic fish) bone that I once found nearby. Quick to put me down my daughter quickly dismissed it as ‘just wood’ but I’m not so sure. Could it be bone of either fish or reptile?

thanks for looking

It looks more like bone than wood to me.

Thanks, I know ichthyosaur and plesiosaur are possibilities, but I’m leaning towards gyrosteus. Any thoughts @LiamL @TqB ?

I think Gyrosteus too, but I'm not really a bone guy. Liam has seen a lot more of this stuff in the last few years!

( I was thrown at first by an apparent carbonaceous outside layer but I guess that's just the photo?)

There does seem to be some kind of outer layer to it, but the photography and the fact that it’s wet in the pic makes it appear darker than it actually is
