PODIGGER
I found this small piece of what I believe is bone with what looks like a patterned design of punched holes. The piece is only 25mm long x 10 mm wide x 3mm thick and tapering to a flattened end. When I first spotted it in the sifter I thought maybe it was a chip of a tooth, but then saw the holes and from looking at the sides came to the conclusion it was bone. I don't know what could have caused the holes that look like they were punched into the bone in a side by side pattern. This is what made me think it may be an artifact of some type. The holes do not go all the way through the bone. Would welcome hearing the opinion of others and from anyone who has seen something similar. HuckMucus
Amateur here: I have seen petrified fish jaw bones with tooth sockets that look like that. I'm wondering if it's either bite marks or the jaw itself, cast or mold? Edited to add: look at crocodile bite (tooth) pattern in b-2 on the diagram: http://www.sci-news.com/paleontology/crocodylus-checchiai-origin-american-crocodiles-08679.html Yours kind of looks like that.
