Daniel Fischer
Hello, today I heard in the radio about a new dinosaur discovery in Argentina, they only found pelvic bones but they say it may be the biggest dinosaur ever discovered. I immediately thought about the Sauroposiedon, which is the tallest dinosaur, but only known by 4 bones. These dinosaurs are both massive sauropods that are known only from a few fossils. I thought that maybe they are the same dinosaur so I looked at a map of the early Cretaceous, compared to a map of the world toady and saw that these dinosaurs lived in different places without any access to each other. But I still have hope, the map I looked at is not accurate at all. So I would like to hear your opinion's about this whole thing, and if you know of a good recreation of the early Cretaceous map, please tell me. The new discovery is in Argentina, and the Sauroposeidon was discovered in Oklahoma.
LordTrilobite
The new sauropod from Argentina is definitely big. But every time a new really big sauropod is found they say it's the biggest yet. It's just marketing, nothing else really. Animals of the same species can vary quite a lot between individuals. Even in humans there can be big differences. So saying a new dinosaur is the biggest based on fairly scrappy material of just one individual really doesn't make much sense. We really don't know if that animal was a particularly big or particularly small, or perhaps average individual of that species. That being said, there are a whole bunch of big sauropods that are contenders for being the biggest. The South American titanosaurs are definitely really big.

I guess we will have to wait for more discoveries.
