Calvert Cliffs - several mystery bones

Recommended Posts

I have been meaning to post my Calvert Cliffs mystery bones for awhile, and I keep finding more, so I finally took some pics to share. These are all Miocene finds collected on different trips over the last 12 months. I would be grateful for any help with ID.

Finally, this random bone fragment has a couple of what look like deep gouges. Can these be bite marks from predation?

This one is shaped exactly like Pringle's potato chip (crisp, for you Brits).

This hollow bone is bird, I'm pretty sure--but what kind?

I agree but without the ends I’m not sure it can be easily IDed. The other ribs look cetacean, same with the vert.

None of these are particularly diagnostic: one is a small dolphin cervical vertebra fragment, and another is a bird bone. Not much can be said about bones that are this incomplete.

This looks to be a complete bone. I have a few others like it, but this is the best one. Ideas?

This looks like it could be a turtle leg bone. That’s my idea.
