georocks58
Hello, I believe this to be a "holdfast" from the Crawfordsville Indiana crinoid locality. I am hoping that someone could help with identification of the particular species, and also if there is a scientific name for "holdfast." Thank you!
jpc
I don't know much about crinoids, but is this the holdfast or the crown?
IsaacTheFossilMan
Looks like a crinoid's crown to me.
georocks58
Aha! I just assumed from the presentation that it was a holdfast, could very well be mistaken. Any idea of species? Thank you!
abyssunder
I can't help you with the genus or species of this nice crinoid, but as is was said before, it's not a holdfast (not because it hasn't the branching character) but because of the mono or biserial arrangement of plates of the arms ( which is not proper for holdfast). Crinoid holdfasts have the same characters of their columns with the cirri branching. In fact, everything is based on the roots.
