Antivm82
The 2nd mystery fossil is also from the southern part of France. It's a black fossil, slightly curved with 10 ammonite like "lobes". To me it always looked like a part of a heteromorph ammonite. It measures 4 x 2,5 cm.
ClearLake
That looks like a reasonable ID of this fragment, but it would be nice to know if the rocks are of the proper age since heteromorph ammonites only lasted through part of the Mesozoic. Ludwigia
There's no doubt in my mind that this is a piece of a heteromorph ammonite. Pity you have no information as to its provenance. Then perhaps the possibilities could be narrowed down. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Antivm82
I can narrow the find location down to the Gorges du Tarn, Cevennes.
caterpillar
I don't think your ammonite comes from Gorges du Tarn where ammonites are essentially jurassic. Your ammonite looks like Hamites from cretaceous 2 http://www.paleotheque.fr
Antivm82
It has to be the south of France. We allways went to the south between Bordeaux and Lyon and below that.
