Seaspawn
Afternoon everybody. I found this in Feb 2020, after Storm Dennis, on my same south Suffolk beach. I've looked at many vertebrae images online and in books, and none seem quite right. It looks closest to a seal...? But that doesn't seem right. Thanks for any guidance! Mahnmut
Aloha. I am not sure about this, but the few seal vertebrae I found (with enough of the seal to be sure of the ID) have rather flat faces (acoelous), while it looks as if your vertebras centrum had one convex end and a concave one. Best regards, J There is a pun on there... seal vert... acoelous (pronounced A-seel-us). The ball bearing end strongly suggests crocodile, but that hole suggests mammal cervical. I wonder about turtle?
Seaspawn
@Mahnmut, thank you much, that does help! Also thank you for the more technical terms, that is an even bigger help going forward. @caterpillar like this: Rib-connecting part isn't quite right but it is much closer than the others I was looking at. 30 minutes ago, jpc said: seal vert... acoelous (pronounced A-seel-us). I will have a look in the turtle direction, thank you!
PrehistoricWonders
Reptile for sure. I’d say Croc.
