Rosie
Hi, I know this might be a bit off topic, but I´m looking for someone to help me determine the species of a crinoid from a video. This is the video in question --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u6lJ7EEzak and there is a huge debate at our University on which species it is. Some say it is Oligometra serripinna, others suggest various Stephanometra options, but we have yet to find the definitive answer. Could anyone help? The video has been probably taken while diving in Thailand, but the species might not necessarily from there. Thank you
Fossildude19
Split into it's own topic. We don't really ID extant species, as we are a Fossil Forum. However, some of our members are quite knowledgeable about current sea life. @digit @MarcoSr @Al Dente Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." digit
I've dived and seen the swimming feather stars many times in the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific. I couldn't guess at the genus much less the species as I'm rusty with IP echinoids. My go-to contact for extant echinoid identification has always been Chuck Messing. He's now emeritus but will likely respond to emails: https://works.bepress.com/charles-messing/about/ Cheers. -Ken
