I assumed this was some kind of Gastropod, but now wondering if it is a sponge...may not be either.  I can't find a Gastropod which looks likely in Linsley's book, and there are no sponges listed.  Searched on the internet and found sponges...but the "squares" look bigger than the ones on this fossil.  Photos are of top, edge and underneath.  Middle Devonian, Finger Lakes Region of NY, near Seneca Lake.

Thanks

Greg
