Is this really it?

Hello,

I received this yesterday as a birthday gift - it was sold as an imprint of hadrosaur skin, Cretaceous, from Hell Creek. Do you think it really is hadrosaur skin?

I'm afraid I can't help with identification, but, happy birthday! Judging by your profile picture, it's your 23rd! Enjoy yourself! :D

What is the size? Can you add in a ruler for scale? It does look like hadrosaur skin impressions I have seen before. Maybe some close ups would help as well. Also, happy birthday!!

I think some clarification may be in order.  I could easily be convinced there is dermal bone preserved here. As in that imbedded in some dino' skin. Was any additional information available ?

My brother, who bought it, said the seller said only "hadrosaur skin, Hell Creek, US".

Hi Kaisa-

Hapy Birthday!

I hate to tell you, but I do not see the typical hadrosaur scale pattern that we see in our skin samples.

Here is a sample from one of our hadrosaur quarries.  This is part and counterpart.

Thanks for wishes :) Oh, that's a really beautiful specimen - but it's not a good news for me

I am not unconvinced it is hadrosaur skin. It has the hexagonal pattern but is not the best preserved. It looks very similar to other samples I have seen. Other opinions will certainly help us I think. Unfortunately the lack of good location data makes it harder.

You're right, let's wait - my brother bought it, trusting the description, because he knew it was on my wish list, but he's not an expert, so he was not able to judge the authenticity. To be honest, I would not be much smarter in this case :)

Thanks - no, I didn't know :) Happy birthday to @JamieLynn :fistbump:

Actually I was born February 29th, so I have my true birthday every 4 years - but in the meantime I celebrate either February28th or March 1st :)

Now that's someting really special. So I guess you're not any more than 10 years old :D

It's this contour that looks especially unlike an imprint, but somewhat bone like, maybe, to me.

Happy birthday! :yay-smiley-1:

Funny that, you don't hear about people having been born on the 29th too frequently. You're only the second person I know after my sister :D

I'm afraid I need to join in with the bad-news-crew, though, as I don't recognize any hadrosaur skin in the piece you got... Below is a specimen in my collection with the same scale-pattern @jpc mentioned...

Happy Birthday

Can you take a real straight in closeup photo of the pattern area circled.   How many sides are these patterns visible

Why not celebrate on both days each year?  Twice as many presents, twice as much birthday cake, and I promise you won’t grow older twice as fast!
