Gastropod in Colombia

Recommended Posts

I've found  this about 50 miles from the Caribbean Sea in Colombia, in a cut made to a hill for a highway to pass through.

The layer where I found it is almost vertical.

I've looked and found similar shells in the web, but no one has the same grooves.

Can anyone help me?

Found near 8.531326033223863, -75.68011324026482

Buenos dias-

The first step would be to find a geological map of Colombia to see what age rocks are at this site.

I am amazed that your GPS goes to this many digits.  That must be down to the micron.

GLONASS format coordinates. Much more precise, but not as extensive a network!

Looks like its Mio-Pliocene 7-3.6 MYA in Age in that area, maybe the El Cerrito formation. Just guessing but maybe its one of the Turritellidae. looks like its incomplete..any chance the aperature/opening to the shell is present or is it broken/sheared off? I cant help further but someone else might...
