Ludwigia
....or something to that effect, in this case just one mouse: yours truly I spent some more time in the Danube Valley today digging in the mud in the Kimmeridgian divisum zone again. I only spent about 3 hours at it this time, since I wanted to be sure to leave in good time to get back home to the wife who needed the car later on, so I was prepared for a comfortable return cruise. However, on the way back a little bit down the road I noticed that a good number of blocks had come down from above and were just lying around in the ditch. Ok! A quick smash and bang episode was in order in the few minutes I had to spare and a few nice things came out. But then I had to switch over to Daytona mode and just managed to get back home with 2 minutes to spare. It would have been quicker if it wasn't for an inordinate number of trucks and tractors and even a slow-going learner. I didn't think to take my camera along, but here's a snap of the finds after a quick wash. The dark ones are from the divisum zone and the lighter ones out of limestone blocks. There's a nice big gastropod at the top right, which is not a common find for this site. Looks like I've got something to keep me busy for a while. 4 7 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
Spent a good part of the afternoon and evening in the workshop and came out with a few nice things. First the gastropod. A Bathrotomaria babeauana steinkern. 9 x ø 8cm. with a piece of sponge attached to the matrix. Just missing the tippytip. Then another Pseudhimalayites uhlandi ø 16cm. Once again, the reverse side is quite under the weather, so to speak, due to the workings of the sponge reef. But there sure is a lot of debris there, including a Streblites tenuilobatus ammonite. At the other end of the spectrum is a cute little Coryceras dentatum at ø 2cm. A Crussoliceras sp. And a Garnierisphinctes sp. with a small sponge and a Glochiceras sp. 1 2 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
I tackled the limestone blocks today. Only one turned out well. The other two, as you can see below, weren't worth keeping. But this one turned into a nice facies block with an Ataxioceras cf. striatellum on the right with a Metahaploceras sp. diving down into the matrix next to it and 2 Ataxioceras sp. (too small and indistinct to guess the species) on the left. The block is 17cm. long. Here's a close-up of the larger one. 1 3 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Very obliging of the cliff to drop this one out I must say. 8 hours ago, Thecosmilia Trichitoma said: If that’s you’re “not worth keeping” standard, then I’ll gladly take you’re extras. Too bad you're so far away, otherwise I'd invite you over to rummage through the buckets. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
So, one more thing to add here before I close shop. A sponge which took me ages to hollow out. Porifera gen. et sp. indet. ø 9 x 5cm. These things are incredibly strongly mineralized (calcite) and extremely stable. There's an oyster stuck to it as well. Greetings from the Lake of Constance.
