any idea ive seen some pics online that are similar in shape but color is a bit different ,not sure been batting zero on my other finds  so far.maybe this one is not just another rock..lol   weathered a bit

I apologize for not reading the newbie links earlier. Slightly embarrassed,  to say the least.

I would like to thank everyone for their insight and knowledge, that has  been purveyed to me.

I'll try not to be so bothersome in the future, and do a bit more studying.

Hi Tobi.

The shape got me thinking on first look. Colour may be highly variable in fossils. What really gives away the real fossils is surface texture and fine structure. It also helps to know the geology of your region, because not any rock contains fossils, and if it does, there will be fossils typical for each region. Rivers and beaches can of course yield fossils from far away places.
