Big Brook NJ Finds

Hi everyone,

Went to Big Brook recently and found many belemnites but also the following items. I imagine they are mostly concretions but it would be cool to find out otherwise.

(1) Thin long bone fragment - I was able to break a piece off so I don't believe it to be old.

Unfortunately most of these are the ironstone concretions that are prevalent down in Big Brook.

The bone is likely a modern mammal rib.  A burn test can help to determine if it is mineralized or modern.

Definitely modern mammal bone and concretions. Modern bones and provocatively shaped rocks are much more abundant in Big Brook and Ramanessin than actual real fossils. Patient, careful searching and knowledge as to what to look for will eventually provide rewards as mine and others big collections will attest.

Thanks guys, thought as much but wanted to confirm before I threw them away. Really appreciate it!

#2 really has the shape of a badly worn mosasaur vert. Get some close up pics of the texture to help us determine if it is just a concretion.
