Conifer Cone??? Early Jurassic East Berlin Formation in Connecticut

I found this interesting plate this morning, not sure what the two (circled) objects are, but they look like possible conifer cones, including what looks like a stem on the top cone-like marking. Early Jurassic, East Berlin Formation in Connecticut. Comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hey Paul,

Those are pretty cool looking.

Not sure exactly what they are, although conifer cone is a possibility. They don't quite look like the one I found, however.

I would send these pictures to Brian Axsmith, and see what he says.

Maybe individual scales from a larger cone? Are such things known from that fm?

Thank you guys for the comments. Not as textbook of an example as your conifer cone Tim! Whatever they may be, I agree, pretty cool looking, and exciting specimen. I wish there was more information and comparative examples to go by. On a humorous note, my first reaction when I glanced at the plate was that of two fruits of a wild strawberry plant:heartylaugh:

Eric,

They are, but they look like obvious cone scales.  Semi-circular/ovate.

These are something different - maybe some sort of spore or seed head, bract, or some other fertile structure.
